Acciaroli, the town that holds the secret of longevity

The announcement is on the homepage of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine: "Remote Italian village could harbor secrets of healthy aging". It is the announcement of the launch, and will last six months from today, of the Acciaroli study, a survey on 300 centenarians of Cilento.

What is the secret of Acciaroli? This segment of the population is also known and studied for having a very low rate of heart problems. Characteristic is the diet, the Mediterranean one, with a strong contribution in the use of rosemary, and the habit of moving on foot, given the layout of the village between sea and mountains.

That the Mediterranean diet is at the center of studies on centenarians is not new: the biologist of the University of Minnesota Ancel Keys, who coined the term "Mediterranean diet" pointing out the benefits on cardiovascular diseases, for 40 years moved to Cilento, in a fishing village that is part of the municipality of Pollica. He also arrived at the age of 101.

"the Mediterranean Diet prolongs your life".
